SANTA BARBARA RESTAURANT
Great new discovery ! This local restaurant serves amazing brunches on week-ends, catering to vegetarians and meat lovers. The local inviting and relax… the service is friendly and efficient without the bells and whistles.
This Saturday, we finally decided to try out the brunch at the Santa Barbara Restaurant. This neighborhood restaurant, open for almost 6 years is featured in many Montreal foodies websites (-Tastet – The best veggie-health addresses in Montreal / 5 favorites brunchs Montreal. – Eater – The Must-Eat Montreal Brunch Bets / The Montreal Essential for Vegetarians) and is recognized for its list of cocktails and its natural wines, offers a mostly vegetarian and very healthy menu and finally, for its delicious brunches. Located in the district of Petite-Patrie, less than 10min walk from our apartment. We arrived around 12:30 and, luck being on our side, there was still some places … but not so much. The restaurant has expanded since its opening by acquiring the local next door in 2015. The decor is very charming, with many statuettes of the Virgin Mary, alongside empty bottles of Mezcal. A bit eclectic, but it really works. The atmosphere was perfect, not too loud, not too cozy.

Now comes the food, The Santa Barba Restaurant stands out with plates mostly vegetarian but it is possible to add some meaty extras to satisfy the carnivore in you. Their ethos is: Vegetarian but carnivorous friendly. The decision was not easy, in fact the whole menu was very tempting so, the debate was long and tedious… and when the waitress arrived, suggesting a very interesting special of the day, things got even more difficult for our choices. On the menu, the avocado toast and poached egg with curly salad, the granola bowl with seasonal fruits, honey and organic yogurt, for the meat eaters, pork flank with coriander, spicy mayo Sriracha with 2 eggs mirror on baguette, however, the gravlax with its creamy dill avocado and scrambled eggs was almost one of our winners.
The HATMAKER
Jasmin rice, carrots, beets, avocado, edamame, seasonal pickles, roasted sesame, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, white miso yogourt dressing, fried egg.
The ARTILLERYMAN
Buckwheat beer crepes, aged cheddar, empire apples, maple sirop, roasted potatoes.

In the end, we picked The Artilleryman, a buckwheat crepe with old cheddar, apple and maple syrup with a little extra bacon to add a little salty side to all that and, a poke bowl lunch, also called The Hatmaker. Oh! My! God!! This bowl was filled with colors and flavours with jasmine rice, beets, marinated carrots, edamame, sunflower and pumpkin seed and yogurt white miso sauce served with an egg mirror. This is à plate not to be missed!
We left the Santa Barbara Restaurant happy to have eaten too well and to have discovered this place, just a few steps from home. A great restaurant for brunch to add on our list of brunch to do at à walking distance.
We sure recommend you try-out this week-end brunch.
